Mehlville student earns national recognition

August 03, 2005 - The U.S. Achievement Academy recently announced that Elizebeth A. Donovan has been named a U.S. National Award Winner in English.

This award is a prestigious honor very few students can ever hope to attain. In fact, the academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.

Donovan, who attends Mehlville Senior High School, was nominated for the na-tional award by Jennifer Garthe, a teacher at the school. Donovan will appear in the U.S. Achievement Academy Official Year-book, which is published nationally.

"Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in America's history. Certainly, United States Achievement Academy winners should be congratulated and appreciated for this dedication to excellence and achievement,'' George Stevens, executive director of the U.S. Achievement Academy, stated in a news release issued by the academy.

The criteria for selection are a student's academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, en-thusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and a recommendation from a teacher or director.

Donovan is the daughter of Martha and Michael Donovan. Her grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Cole and Mrs. Quilline Vaughan.
