July 20, 2005 - Taxpayers always are on the lookout for tax deductions and there may be one sitting in your driveway or garage.
"Donating any car to the American Cancer Society not only raises money to fight cancer in Missouri, but it also provides the donor with an itemized tax de-duction,'' Nancy Jordan, income project specialist for the American Cancer So-ciety, stated in a news release.
Car donation is a simple process that is easy for the donor, according to the release. Contributors can mail their notarized car title or bring it to their area American Cancer Society office. The titles must be clear or include a lien release at the time of donation. The donor is provided with a receipt of their donation and a copy of the book value at the time of the donation. The society makes arrangements to have the vehicle picked up at any location. The cars do not have to be drivable, but must have an engine and four inflated tires. Proceeds support research, education and service programs.
