Final approval of rezoning near school eyed by board

An ordinance approving a rezoning re-quest by the Lindbergh School District and the Matco Machine & Tool Co. will be considered Tuesday, June 14, by the Crestwood Board of Aldermen.
The Board of Aldermen will meet at 7 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chamber at the Crestwood City Hall, 1 Detjen Drive. A work session of the board is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Aldermen recently gave initial approval to the request to rezone 2.01 acres currently owned by Matco Machine adjacent to the Crestwood Elementary School playground, 1020 Sap-pington Road.
"Matco Machine and the Lindbergh School District have agreed in principle to the sale of this property to the Lind-bergh School District, contingent upon the rezoning of the parcel from M-1 Light Industrial to R-2 Single Family. The Crestwood Elementary School is currently zoned R-2,'' Director of Public Works Jim Eckrich stated in a May 18 memorandum to City Administrator Don Greer.
"... Several months ago Matco Machine came before the Planning and Zoning Commission requesting a subdivision of their property. At that time, the Lindbergh School District opposed the development for several reasons, in-cluding the loss of trees and loss of a landscape buffer be-tween their soccer field and the industrial park. Should the rezoning be approved and the sale finalized, the Lindbergh School District will own the additional two acres, which will serve as a buffer between the two parcels,'' the public works director stated in the memorandum.
The company first sought approval of a preliminary subdivision plat last fall. At that time, a 30,000-square-foot office/warehouse building was proposed adjacent to the elementary school. No action was taken by the commission Sept. 1.
The city's Planning and Zoning Commission earlier this year voted unanimously to recommend approval of Matco Machine's request for approval of a preliminary subdivision plat to construct a 25,000-square-foot office/warehouse facility adjacent to to the school.
