Walk resigns from Lindbergh school board

April 20, 2005 - The Lindbergh Board of Education may not need to look far to replace resigning board member Drew Walk.

Walk resigned from the school board last week, stating in a letter that he was moving out of the district, and former board Vice President Barry Cooper told the Call he in-tends to apply for the post.

At the same April 11 meeting, the board re-elected Mark Rudoff as board president and elected Kenneth Fey as vice president.

Board member Vic Lenz was elected secretary and board member Katie Wessel-schmidt was named treasurer.

Rudoff, Wesselschmidt and Bob Foerstel were elected April 5 and took their oaths of office. Foerstel replaced Cooper.

But now the district needs someone to fill the rest of Walk's term, which expires next April.

"It's my intention that I'm going to apply for the post," Cooper said. "If it's the board's desire to have me serve, I would be happy to do that.

"I absolutely love the district," he added. "It's unfortunate that we're losing Drew and there are a number of different challenges that Lindbergh is facing ... I've never been one at all to shy away from a challenge. My interest has always been the Lindbergh School District and what's best for the kids and that's no different now."

While Cooper has name recognition, the seat isn't a lock, and Cooper encourages others to apply as well.

To apply, interested Lindbergh residents should submit a letter to the Board of Ed-ucation stating their qualifications and reasons for seeking office. Candidates must be at least 24 years old, a U.S. citizen and a Missouri resident at least one year.

The board also requests notice of any family member or relative currently em-ployed by the Lindbergh School District.

The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 26. Applications can be mailed or dropped off at the Superintendent's Office, 4900 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis 63126.

Board members will interview candidates Tuesday, May 3, and make an official appointment at their next regularly scheduled meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May, 10.

For more information, call the Superintendent's Office at (314) 729-2480, Ext. 8600.

"I'm sure others will apply as well," Cooper said, "and I want to encourage (the board) to choose who they think is best suited to lead the district. I know they will do that."
