Voters should support 'Marriage Amendment'

Letter to the editor

To the editor:

On Aug. 3, Missouri voters will have the opportunity to amend Missouri's Constitution and preserve traditional marriage.

Passage of Constitutional Amendment 2, also known as the "Marriage Amendment,'' will lawfully define marriage as being between a man and a woman, and, by default, ban gay marriage in Missouri.

The measure is supported by all Christian groups, as it clearly agrees with biblical teaching regarding marriage. Christians do not regard the legislation as "hateful'' or "mean spirited''; it simply supports our religious beliefs.

To Christians, the Bible is the inspired and inerrant word of God. The Bible recognizes marriage as being between a man and a woman, and denounces homosexuality — and, by default, gay marriage.

A constitutional amendment would not be easily challenged in court, a true plus given today's climate of activist judges.

Activist judges have removed God and prayer from our classrooms, banned the Ten Commandments from numerous public buildings and challenged our Pledge of Allegiance because it mentions "God,'' etc.

The courts are attacking our religious freedom of expression and morals from all sides. If Missouri does not pass the "Marriage Amendment,'' our courts will sooner or later also be sanctioning gay marriages, and we will once again be scratching our heads, wondering what happened. Let's not let this happen.

On Aug. 3, vote "yes'' on Missouri Constitutional Amendment 2.
