Local soccer player to compete in Aruba

Ryan Wilson, a 12-year-old soccer player from the Oakville area, has been nominated to represent the United States and will join a national team of Sports Tours USA athletes to compete this July in Aruba against teams from throughout the world for the Aruba Cup.

Sports Tours USA is the nation's leading provider of International athletic experiences to athletes. The organization was founded in 1984 by a group of coaches dedicated to helping this nation's young people exceed their potential in sports and learn about other cultures.

Selected athletes must meet two separate screening criteria before being considered for the team roster. Ryan will dedicate the months before leaving to conditioning for the competition and providing services and volunteering in this area.

Family, friends and businesses are assisting Ryan in his fund-raising efforts for the trip.

Ryan is the son of Lisa and Pete Thibodeau and Tom Wilson.
