Incumbents in Crestwood Ward 3, Green Park Ward 2 face challenge
Incumbent aldermen in the cities of Crestwood and Green Park will face challengers in the April 6 election, as will an incumbent Mehlville Board of Education member.
Filing for April's municipal and school board elections ended Jan. 20.
In Crestwood, four aldermanic seats are up for election, but two incumbent aldermen are unopposed in the April election.
Ward 1 Alderman Richard Breeding, who serves as president of the Board of Aldermen, and Ward 4 Alderman Pat Duwe are unopposed in their re-election bids. All Crestwood aldermanic seats carry three-year terms.
In Ward 2, three candidates are seeking the seat currently held by Gary Vincent, who did not file for re-election. Seeking the Ward 2 seat are: Dan Himebaugh, 1130 Tahiti, 63126; Jeffrey Schlink, 1228 Capri, 63126; and James Kelleher, 17 Jo Ann Place.
In Ward 3, incumbent Alderman Bernadine "Bernie'' Alexander will be challenged by Jerry Miguel, 7942 Camelot Lane, 63126.
In Green Park, two incumbent aldermen are unopposed in their re-election bids.
Ward 1 Alderman Judy Betlach and Ward 3 Alderman Fred Baras, who serves as president of the Board of Aldermen, are unopposed in their re-election bids. All Green Park aldermanic seats carry two-year terms.
In Ward 2, incumbent Alderman Tony Konopka will be challenged by Jackie Wilson, 9619 Guehring Drive.
In Sunset Hills, the mayoral seat held by James Hobbs and the collector's seat held by Thomas Fleer are up for election April 6, and both incumbents are unopposed in their re-election bids. All seats in Sunset Hills carry two-year terms.
Beside the mayoral and collector's seats up for election in Sunset Hills, aldermanic seats held by Joe Rathert of Ward 1, John Smith of Ward 2, Robert Brockhaus of Ward 3 and A. Ron Kaemmerer of Ward 4 are up for election.
Smith, Brockhaus and Kaemmerer are unopposed in their re-election bids. John Tipton, 1481 Royal Springs Drive, has filed for the Ward 1 seat held by Rathert, who did not file for re-election.
In the Lindbergh School District, Board of Education seats held by Robert Bader and Larry McIntosh are up for election. The seats carry three-year terms.
Bader, who first was elected to the school board in 2001, and O. Victor Lenz are unopposed for the two seats because McIntosh did not file for election to a third, three-year term.
Lenz, 4628 Bridlewood Terrace, 63128, retired June 30 as the district's assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, capping a 39-year career in education that included 37 years of service in the Lindbergh School District.
Under state legislation adopted last year, the district will not be required to conduct an election because the race is uncontested. Under the new law, if the same number of candidates file as there are vacancies, no election is necessary.
In the Mehlville School District, Board of Education seats held by Rita Diekemper and Rich Huddleston are up for election. The seats carry three-year terms.
An election will take place April 6 as three candidates have filed for two seats.
The three candidates are: Diekemper, who first was elected to the board in 2001; Tom Correnti, 2133 Telford Drive, 63125; and Karl Frank Jr., 5682 Winter Garden Court, 63129.
Huddleston did not file for election to a third, three-year term.
