Mehlville Senior High athletes honored


The fall sports season is over, but the honors keep rolling in for Mehlville High School athletes.

A representative from Edward Jones recently visited the school to announce the company's selections for September, October and November Athletes of the Month." Edward Harris of Edward Jones presented the athletes with commemorative plaques, according to a Mehlville School District news release.

Senior Ryan Burke was selected as "Athlete Of The Month" from the District Champion boys' soccer team for September.

He paced the Panthers' scoring attack this season with a team-leading 17 goals, two of which were game winners.

Burke also chipped in with 17 assists, earning him the team's scoring title with 41 points.

Senior Jamie Joyner represented the district champion girls' volleyball team as Athlete of the Month for October.

As a middle hitter she had 48 digs, 43 kills, 35 points, 10 aces and nine blocks. She plans to attend Mississippi State University next year.

November's Athlete of the Month was senior Gary Williams, representing the district champion football team. While playing linebacker, he led the Panthers with 60 tackles and 11 sacks, and also recorded an interception.

On offense, Williams played tight end and scored two touchdowns while making seven catches for a total of 91 yards, according to the release.
