Working at Mehlville a 'wonderful experience'
To the editor:
For 21 years, I have enjoyed a great relationship with the Mehlville School District.
It has been a wonderful experience working first as a parent volunteer and then for the past five years as a part-time employee.
My husband and I were blessed with four wonderful, healthy children who received great educations in Mehlville schools and who have turned out to be productive young people making a difference.
Now, due to circumstances beyond my control, I have to leave, but I do not want to leave without first thanking all the students, parents and Mehlville employees who have touched my life. I got to know thousands of students who went through the schools that I have worked in and they have touched my life in more ways than I can count.
When I am out in the community and a young person walks by and says, "Hi, Mrs. Fowler,'' it is a feeling like no other.
To all the students of Mehlville, I would say: Stay positive, even when things don't go your way. Stay focused on your studies and think before you act. Work hard and always follow your dreams.
Working with other parents on committees, as a room mother, at picnics, mothers' clubs and PTOs has given me some of the best friends of my life. Schools have a rich, unending resource of volunteers that are just waiting for someone to give them direction of what they can do to help in the buildings.
Then there are the "new'' friends I have most recently made as fellow employees of the Mehlville School District. My hat is off to those who day in and day out dedicate their lives to teaching children, not only educationally, but also in life skills.
Mehlville is a great place to send your child with many opportunities for students to get a great education. It is also a wonderful place to work or volunteer. If you are not a volunteer, consider giving it a try.
The rewards of making a difference in the life of a child are beyond words. I've been blessed with a great family and many wonderful friends. Thank you, and I'll see you around.
