Beauchamp named Coach of the Week by NFL

Lindbergh Coach Tom Beauchamp, who led his football Flyers to the Class 6 Show-Me-Bowl in 2002 and has his team off to a 6-0 start this season, has been named the St. Louis Rams' High School Coach of the Week for the week of October 8.

The award was announced by Rams Coach Mike Martz last week after Lindbergh erased a 14-7 halftime deficit against Lafayette and turned it into a 28-21 victory. At the time, that helped the Flyers improve to 5-0 for the first time ever — and they are now sitting at 6-0.

"I look at this as more of a staff award than an individual honor," Beauchamp told the Call. "We have great coaches over here and they do a great job."

When Beauchamp came to the Flyers nine years ago, the team had never won a district championship. Aside from the appearance in the state finals a year ago, they have won the district title each of the past two seasons.

Clearly, the Flyers have turned it around under Beauchamp on the gridiron. But that's not the only place in which they excel, as 19 different Flyers sport a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Beauchamp has been coaching football for 24 years, including nine at Lindbergh.

The award for Beauchamp and the rest of the Lindbergh Flyers football program in-cludes a certificate signed by Coach Mike Martz and NFL Commissioner Paul Tag-liabue. The team also receives a $1,000 donation to the program from the Rams Foundation and NFL Charities.

Beauchamp said he has some ideas for that money.

"We're going to go get some things we've been needing," he said. "We will definitely put it to use."

On Nov. 30, Coach Beauchamp will be recognized at the Edward Jones Dome when the Rams play host to Minnesota.
