Amici Circle Kids Club's raises $10,000 for charity

The Amici Circle Kids Club's performance of 'Peter Pan' raised $10,000 for the Oxalosis Hyperoxaluria Foundation.
The Amici Circle Kids Club recently performed the musical "Peter Pan'' at the Amici Circle Outdoor Theater, the home of Jack and Chris Horas, with a combined attendance of more than 800 people.

The show was directed and choreographed by four eighth-grade pupils at Queen of All Saints — Amanda Horas (Peter Pan), Natalie Berra (Tiger Lily), Christen Lux (Wendy) and Taylor Yehling (Indian) — and raised $10,000 for charity, according to a news release.

These four girls spent their entire summer leading rehearsals with a cast of 50 children from various schools in Oakville. For the past four years, this group has produced an outdoor musical and each year the cast, attendance and donations have doubled.

"Peter Pan'' was the fourth and final production of the Amici Circle Kids Club because the directors will be entering high school next year.

The charity benefiting from the $10,000 raised by this event is a foundation that is very close to the hearts of the Amici Circle Kids Club, the release stated. The Oxalosis Hyperoxaluria Foundation seeks a cure for the orphan disease PH1, a very rare metabolic disease caused by the liver making too much oxalic acid. This causes kidney stones, which leads to kidney failure.

Natalie Berra was diagnosed with this condition in 1995 and since that day, the St. Louis chapter of the Oxalosis Hyperoxaluria Foundation has raised more than $300,000.

The friends of Natalie Berra have followed the example of their parents' efforts to serve as hosts of charity events with all donations earmarked for research to find a cure for this disease that affects very few and previously had been ignored by research doctors.
