Call Publishing Inc. launches its new website, callnewspapers.com, as it begins its 15th year of publication.
The website will feature all the news of the week, archived news stories, links to several other sites, as well as a number of cutting-edge features.
The addition of the website is just another example of the phenomenal growth the Call has experienced over the past 14 years, according to General Manager Bill Milligan.
"With our four weekly newspapers, the Mail Call and now the callnewspapers.com website, the Call is the fastest growing newspaper in the state of Missouri," Milligan said.
Milligan and his wife, Publisher Deborah Baker, began their quest of providing local news and advertising to south county residents when they launched the Oakville Call in August 1989, mailing the publication to every home, apartment and business in ZIP Code 63129.
With a business plan of starting a new publication every couple of years, the Call has done just that and today boasts 26 employees and four weekly publications — the Oakville Call, the Concord Call, the Green Park Call and the SunCrest Call have a weekly circulation of 52,000 and reach ZIP codes 63126, 63127, 63128, 63129 and part of 63123.
Besides the four weekly newspapers, the Call also publishes a special edition Mail Call that is mailed every two months, spreading news and features to reach more ZIP Codes in the south county area, including all of 63123, 63125, 63010, and 63026, and boosting total circulation to 118,000.
Baker said she was very excited about the new developments surrounding the Call.
"It will be a great year for the Call," Baker said. "The recent addition of a news, composing and advertising person is a real boost to an already-capable and terrific staff. The launch of a web page, with continued mail and store stack delivery presents a year for tremendous growth and change.
"Beginning our 15th year, I am confident we are better prepared to serve the community,"Baker said.
Milligan said the challenges the Call has faced have not been easy, but worthwhile.
"It has been rewarding and sometimes challenging to get elected officials to give us information, but since August of '89 the Call has made every effort to cover everything that has happened in the community that the people want to know about,'' Milligan said.
