Three Athletes of the Month honored in ceremony at Oakville Senior High
Oakville Senior High School's Athletes of the Month recently were announced for December, January and February.
These athletes represent the winter sports teams at Oakville, a news release stated.
Jeff Barbeau was chosen as the Dec-ember recipient of the Athlete of the Month honor, Christine Dieckmann earned the January honor and Jake Dieffenbach captured the award for February.
Each winner was presented with a certificate suitable for framing and a personalized Oakville Tigers wind shirt. All three athletes were selected after being nominated by their respective coaches, according to a district news release.
Barbeau, a senior, is a star in the water. He set school records in the 100-yard free-style, 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly swimming events and placed sixth in the state in the 100-yard butterfly.
Barbeau also plays for the school's water polo team, where he was chosen First-Team All-Conference, First-Team All-Dis-trict and Conference Player of the Year.
Point guard Dieckmann made her mark on the basketball court. A senior, she earned First-Team All-Conference honors.
Dieckmann also was chosen for the All-Tournament Team in two separate tournaments during the season.
Dieffenbach finished his senior season with a second consecutive spot on the All-State Wrestling team.
He also took first place at the Granite City and Columbia Hickman tournaments during the season.
The announcement of the Athletes of the Month was made by Oakville High Ath-letics Director Mike Bishop in conjunction with Edward Jones Investments and Priority One.
