Sunset Hills sets design charrette for improvements to Weber Road

Sunset Hills sets design charrette for improvements to Weber Road

The city of Sunset Hills will conduct a de-sign charrette for improvements to Weber Hill Road later this month.

The design charrette, intended to obtain insight into residents' desires and ideas re-garding this project, will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, April 21, in the boardroom at City Hall, at 3939 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

Funding has been included in the city's fiscal 2003 budget for engineering services for the improvement of Weber Hill Road.

The process started with the hiring of Burns & McDonnell for the engineering work on the project. The pavement condition of Weber Hill Road has degraded to such a point where the pavement must be replaced or rehabilitated to make it viable for traffic.

In looking at Weber Hill Road it became obvious the curbing at the west end is in dire need of repair and most probably re-placement, while the east end never has had curbing and has open ditching, which is causing erosion of the pavement and creating hazardous side road conditions.

Burns & McDonnell has been instructed by the city to have surveying work performed to create an accurate picture of what exists and show some basic improvements such as curbing and possible en-closed storm sewer systems. The roadway will be shown in its current alignment and width. No changes in the width of the pave-ment, curvature of the roadway, or grades of the roadway will be proposed at this very preliminary stage of the project.

At the design charrette a basic overview of the project will be presented. Those attending then will be divided into teams to discuss various concerns and aspects of the roadway. Once each team has been given a chance to address each topic, the ideas will be brought together to gain a consensus of the entire group. The conclusions then will guide Burns & McDonnell in completing the preliminary design of the project.
