Mobile radar unit turns Antigo into speedway

Mobile radar unit turns Antigo into speedway

To the editor:

We, the citizens of Green Park, want to thank the St. Louis County Police Department for the loan of its mobile radar unit.

That's the thing on wheels which can be pulled to any location, parked and then checks the speed of automobiles as they roar by. It was parked on Antigo Drive — otherwise known as the Green Park Speedway — close by Ambush.

I realize the thing was put there to discourage speeding, because it flashes your speed in big numerals as you approach.

But I got to tell you that here on Antigo, it only encouraged speeding. It was a sort of competition as to who could ring up the biggest number.

Heck, even the skateboarders — of which there are plenty — had a ball.

However, the next time the police want to check the speed of cars here on Antigo Drive, I suggest they park an unmarked radar police car in that same spot.

I would also like to see, sitting inside that police car, a police officer with a sharp eye and a short temper, one who would not sit idly by and let those speeders flaunt the law.

As a matter of fact, I'd be willing to bet he would make a name for himself by writing a record number of speeding tickets here in Green Park.

Maybe even give the city of St. George a run for its money.
