Oakville High girls fall 65-33 to Westminster in tourney

January 02, 2013 - The Oakville Senior High School girls' basketball team fell to 3-3 overall with a 65-33 loss to Westminster in the opening round of the Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School Tournament Wednesday.

Tigers head coach Aaron Bosch told the Call he knew the Tigers were up against a tough team and his squad wasn't able to play its normal game.

"Too many offensive rebounds in the first half," he said. "It was one of those nights where not only are they better than us, but they made a lot of shots and we couldn't make anything tonight.

"We missed a lot of layups, a lot of five-foot jumpers and that didn't help. And some of it (was) they're big and we were shooting faster than we were used to because we were worried about getting our shots blocked, but we just weren't hitting them."

The Tigers' two most consistent scorers, Alyssa Norberg and Aaryana Cook, were held to a combined total of 12 points.

Going into the game, Norberg, who was averaging 11 points per game, scored five, and Cook, who was averaging 12 points per game, scored seven.

Bosch said while his Tigers are not off to a 6-0 start, he has seen some good things at the start of the 2012-2013 season.

"They've done a good job early this season," he said. "They need to continue to gel as a team and figure out their roles."

One piece of adversity the Tigers have had to overcome is the loss of a key player at the beginning of the season, which does not give them much depth. But they are not discouraged by any means.

"Once we settle in, I think we can be a pretty good team by the end of the season," Bosch said.

The Tigers were set to face Parkway South in the third-place game Saturday — after the Call went to press.
